Information on our Hand-Embroidered  & Vintage Textiles

Our fabrics and cushions are hand-embroidered, sadly we cannot do this on a commercial basis in this country.  We have our products hand-embroidered in a small unit in India.  We use highly skilled men to produce our work and it is done by using a technique called 'tambour work'.  The base fabric is stretched on a frame tightly like a drum (tambour) and the work is done by using a very fine needle with a hook on the end, a little like a crochet hook.  Threads are held below the fabric and the needle work is done by pulling the thread through from the top, the design having already have been marked by a transfer on the surface, exactly as you will be familiar with.  Our artisans are very skilled with these needles and can produce any type of stitch by this technique, it looks very easy but takes years of training.  Many of the hand-embroidered textiles on sale in the UK are produced by this method.

RECLAIM THE FLAG.  BUY UNION JACK PRODUCTS ACTUALLY MADE IN THE UK!

Using her experience and contacts in the Antiques trade, Barbara searches the country for her genuine vintage  and antique Union Jack Flags and textiles.  These are reworked into fab cushions, each one unique and showing signs of past use.  Patches are applied by hand where necessary or left to show the wear and tear of the original piece.  Fillings are luxury duck feather ( for the large cushions), or, organic, highly fragrant lavender.  Some of the smaller finds are made into hanging hearts and customized with vintage brooches and pins.

Each of these original vintage cushions are made here in the UK in the glorious Shropshire countryside.
